Engaging Family Hiking in D.C., Maryland, & Virginia
When it comes to family hiking in the Washington D.C., Maryland, and Virginia area, few experiences can match the thrill of exploring nature’s wonders while hunting for hidden treasures along the way. In this blog post, we’ll delve deep into the incredible programs that not only make hiking more engaging but also reward families for their outdoor exploration.
Kids in Parks
If you are a family seeking a more interactive hiking experience near D.C., Kids in Parks Track Trails offers the perfect blend of outdoor exploration and education. Their enriching and distinctive hiking experience combines education with adventure. They’ve curated a selection of themed journeys, such as ‘Animal Athletes,’ ‘Nature’s Hide & Seek,’ ‘Bird Sightings,’ ‘Need for Trees,’ and ‘Habitat Adventure.’
In ‘Animal Athletes,’ children are encouraged to emulate the physical activities of animals through eight engaging challenges along the trail. ‘Nature’s Hide & Seek’ invites kids of all ages to embark on a trail-walking adventure, discovering common natural elements along the way. ‘Bird Sightings’ tailors its observations to the park’s specific location, focusing on commonly found bird species. ‘Need for Trees’ immerses kids in the knowledge of six prevalent tree species within the park, highlighting their importance for both people and wildlife. ‘Habitat Adventure’ involves interactive activities to be completed along the route, providing insights into how the National Park System works to preserve and protect animal habitats.
Upon successfully finishing your adventure, you can access their website to record your hike. You have the convenience of adding multiple children to a single account. As a rewarding incentive for your completed adventures, you’ll receive recognition through their program. Furthermore, your account provides a comprehensive overview of your progress, including the number of Kids in Parks adventures undertaken and the total miles walked if you’ve explored the Track Trails.
